Abstract

The magazine Música y Pueblo was one of the few musical publications created in Valencia during the 1970s, a period marked by important social, political and cultural changes in Spain. Throughout its more than forty years of existence, this bulletin established itself as a faithful reflection of the musical panorama of the Valencian Community, especially in the field of music bands. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of the magazine Música y Pueblo on the development and promotion of brass bands. To this end, the 181 issues published during this period are analysed, examining key issues such as the evolution of the repertoire, the competitions, the activities organised by the Federation of Musical Societies of the Valencian Community and the editorial novelties that promoted the dissemination of an original music repertoire for bands. Through a content analysis approach, this work not only aims to reveal the extent of this influence, but also to understand how the magazine adapted to technological, social and cultural changes over time.
