This article examines the proliferation of band associations in the Valencian Community during the 19th and 20th centuries. The process of band formation was complex due to the economic investment required for the purchase of instruments. The background to band associations from the 19th century onwards is explored, highlighting the liberation of the right of association with the Royal Order of 1839, which led to the creation of athenaeums and recreational societies with music as entertainment. The Law of Associations of 1887 regulated this type of association, establishing regulations for its creation and operation. The analysis delves into the influences on the formation of bands, such as military musical traditions, religious, political, charitable and educational influences, and teachers or educated people.
Finally, the text deals with more recent influences, highlighting that of Parents' Associations, Neighbourhood Associations and even Housewives' Associations. It also explains the current role of the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana, which was established in 1968 and brings together 547 musical societies in the provinces of Valencia, Alicante and Castellón.
