Abstract

During the second half of the 19th century, the composition, edition, and circulation of music -both original and transcribed for wind bands- was promoted in Spain. Within the transcriptions, Italian opera was one of the most important genres in the repertoires. This is due to the reception of the Italian lyric theater in the Spanish musical society, mainly due to the arrival of the «hurricane» Gioachino Rossini. Given the above, the present text aspires, in the first instance, to study the presence of Ross ini in the nineteenth century musical edition for band. Likewise, the text intends to make a brief approximation to the presence of Rossini’s music in the repertoires of music bands throughout the mentioned century.
