Abstract

Francisco Bañeras Torres (1786-1863) is presented as a forgotten musician who throughout his career worked as a flute and oboe instrumentalist, as well as a band director, composer and teacher. A figure who developed the musical profession in different geographical and professional fields. Broadly speaking, his life can be divided into two large periods: before 1826 as a military musician and later, when he moved to Santiago de Compostela, where he worked as a musician linked to ecclesiastical institutions and later, he served as director of the band of the Hospice of the city. The objective of our contribution is to rework his biographical profile in view of new archival and hemerographic sources, paying special attention to his period as a major musician during the years of the Liberal Triennium at the head of the music of the Fernando VII regiment. Along with this we approach his compositional work, analyzing two patriotic songs preserved in the National Library of Spain.
