The postmodern era brings new approaches to the analysis of musical creation from a semiotic perspective. The phenomenon of intertextuality, applied to music, makes it possible for different styles, genres, languages and meanings to coexist in the s ame com position.
In this way it is very interesting to observe the musical compositions of two catalan composers, Xavier Benguerel and Carles Guinovart, in which the melodies of the Llibre Vermell are incorporated. These medieval quotations appear throughout the piece and apparently there is an impression that there are different fragments embedded in the musical texture, but after the musical analysis it become s clear that several resources and tendencies unit them in one complete quotation.
It is such free exploitation of the original source has made us hypothesize about the invisible music that does not exist in real time, but is realized implicitly as if it had been taken out of parenthesis. To justify the way in which the quotation appears in the compositions of Benguerel and Guinovart, we have applied to the methodology of musical analysis the methods of electronic music, especially the assembling. On the other hand, we have relied on the Gestalt theory of the perception, in particular, in the concept of continuity and in the modeling technique.
